Issues debugging custom visual using 'debugger' statement

I am having issues with the code below for debugging. Looking for help.

public update(options: VisualUpdateOptions) {
console.log("NEW");
debugger;

}

In browser, when I do F12 and goto consoler log, I dont see "NEW" being printed. When I try to find(javascript) my code in developer console of browser I did not succeed. When I selected custom visual and did inspect element it shows multiple script tags but they all seem to be in '.scripts/' folder which has power bi related JS files.

I created a new project from scratch and tried debugger and it seems to work fine. Must be some issue in my code which is causing it to fail before reaching debugger.
