Import data from Cube

Hello BI Community,

There is one requirement of extracting the data from cube into Power BI Desktop using import method. As of now we checked 2 ways to get it done :-

1) Import Dimensions & Fact tables one by one. However in that case we need to create the modelling of tables again as we did in SSAS.

2) Import all the dimensions & facts into single table in Power BI i.e all the attributes & measures would be comprised in single table & there is no need to build model view.

So, please suggest which approach would be better & why. Will measures work in Power BI that we have created in SSAS (in case Point1) ? Your suggetions will help to leverage the power of Power BI 🙂

Thanks in advance.

Please, please explain why. Can you access the cube's data source directly from Power BI?

Hello @lbendlin ,

Although, there is another option provided by Microsoft Power BI to connect with cube using "Live" mode. However, in the given specific requirement, there is need to create calculated columnns & measures in Power BI itself because of dynamic requirements flow. Along with this, we are using some target values for some dimensions which are available in excel file, not in cube & to utilize those values we need to go with import mode.

Thanks.
