Hi Folks,
Just anyone make the Q and A effective and answer correctly? How to make it responsive and answer properly?
Most of the times it is not working at all, it's a pain...
Power BI's Q&A visual can be incredibly powerful, but its effectiveness heavily depends on how well the underlying semantic model is prepared. If you're finding that the Q&A feature often fails to return correct or responsive answers, the root cause is typically due to insufficient model optimization rather than the tool itself. To improve its accuracy, start by renaming your tables and columns with user-friendly, natural-language terms—avoid technical jargon or abbreviations. Also, create synonyms for commonly used business terms via the Q&A setup pane to align with how users naturally phrase questions. Ensure your relationships between tables are correctly defined, as ambiguous or missing relationships can confuse Q&A’s logic. You can also add featured questions to guide users or use phrasings to teach Q&A how to interpret common queries. Lastly, limit the use of overly complex measures or calculated columns that Q&A might not interpret well. With these steps, you help the Q&A visual better understand the intent behind questions, making it far more responsive and accurate in answering user queries.
Hi @reggiesonline,
To improve the responsiveness and accuracy of the Q&A visual in Power BI or Microsoft Fabric, here are some tips you can follow.
Make sure your data model is well-organized, with clear column names and proper relationships between tables.
In the Q&A setup pane, try adding synonyms and phrases based on how users usually ask questions, this helps the system understand queries better.
Also, make use of the Q&A configuration tools where you can add terms, fix common misunderstandings, and suggest better phrasing.
Stick to supported data types like numbers and categories, and try to avoid using too much free text, as it may confuse the Q&A feature. Adding useful metadata like descriptions or calculated columns makes it easier for Q&A to interpret your data correctly. It’s a good idea to test the feature by asking questions in plain language, just like a typical user would, and adjust based on the results.
If Q&A isn’t working at all, double-check that your dataset has been loaded and refreshed properly. Make sure you're using the latest version of Power BI or Fabric.

HI @reggiesonline,
Hi,
I wanted to check in your situation regarding the issue. Have you resolved it? If you have, please consider marking the reply as Accepted solution and give Kudos that helped you. It would be greatly appreciated by others in the community who may have the same question.
Thank you.
You need to do some work in order to make QA effective, basically it is the training that you are providing
1. Add meaning full names, synonyms, descriptions to each and every object in your semantic model
2. Add relationships (this is not the relationships between your tables in semantic model but you have to define the meaning for data available in your model)
3. Add sample questions and provide answers.
4. If you enable Copilot in your organisation then you can expect even more better results I believe
