Help needed with data remodeling

Hello,

Here's a tricky requirement - My report has an old column for id, named 'ID'. This id is used in relationships with two other tables in the Power BI data model. Also, 'ID' is used in over 50 measures and calculated columns. Recently, we received information from the backend team that they will no longer be sending this ID data and will now send new data in a new column called 'ID_new'. The data in 'ID_new' column will be populated for all historic data as well.

To accommodate this change, one option that I have is to redo the modeling and update the relationships; and replace 'ID' with 'ID_new' in all the calculated columns and measures manually. Is there any other suggestion for making the changes more efficiently?

Many thanks!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Based on your description, the new column seems to be similar to the old one?

If so, you may consider creating a new table with 'ID_new' column and using Append in Power Query to combine the two tables, so that you can continue to use the new data on top of the original model to avoid re-modeling.

For more details, please refer to:
