Embedded Visuals - Slow Loading

Hello,

My company is building a web app using embedded visuals. Each visual is stored in a different report. We are using the Power BI API to update visuals based on user selection. We are using Direct Query mode. Each visual is filtered based on selected start/end date and other metrics.

Issues:

  • There is a 12 - 11 second load time between when the API is called and when visuals begin to render
  • There is an additional 8 - 10 second load time between when the Power BI symbol appears and the full visual actually loads

What I have tried:

  • Query Caching - unavailable for Direct Query
  • Removed excess columns from fact table
  • Microsoft Docs
  • Performance Optimization in Desktop - visual renders in 485 ms with NO filters applied

Given that in the desktop app the load time is a fraction of a second what could be going on? Visuals also load quickly in the Power BI Service/Cloud. What else can I troubleshoot on my end? Could this be an issue with how the API is being called?

Are you on a Shared or Premium capacity?  Which data storage location?
