Direct Query Error When Embedding Power BI Report from Linux SQL Server

Hello everyone, I'm working on embedding Power BI reports into my custom SaaS web application and have run into an issue with Direct Query mode. I've set up an on-premises gateway in standard mode and configured my data source in the Power BI portal to connect to a SQL Server hosted on a Linux VM (the same server running my SaaS app). While I can successfully create reports in Power BI Desktop on my Windows machine, connect to the SQL server remotely, and publish to the Power BI portal using Import mode without any problems, I consistently get an error when attempting to use Direct Query mode: Please find attached the copy of the error. The SQL server is accessible via remote connection and Import mode works perfectly, but I specifically need Direct Query to display real-time data in my embedded reports. Has anyone successfully configured Direct Query with an on-premises gateway connecting to a Linux-hosted SQL Server, or encountered similar issues? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @rpatil0310

Just checking in to see if you were able to test with a SQL Server instance hosted on Windows Server as requested earlier?
This will help us determine whether the issue is specific to SQL Server or related to the DirectQuery + Gateway configuration.

Hi @rpatil0310

Have you had a chance to look through the responses shared earlier? If anything is still unclear, we’ll be happy to provide additional support.

Do you see the same issue on a SQL Server hosted on a Windows Server Machine? (pre-2025, ideally)
