Datalist not fully working in Designer

I've created a custom visual with a datalist http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_datalist.asp

This worked nicely in the devtools and portal, however when I open this in the Designer, it is not fully working.

The input box is visible and events function properly on the available data in the datalist, however the dropdown (like combobox) is not show.
