I'm trying to create a custom connector to take from a notion Database to then have it in power bi. I've tried to use the web connect with credentials and API keys but that has not worked at all. I'm looking into the M language and Power Query but there are no good examples or open-source projects of how connectors are made complete with an API and credentials etc. Is there an easier way of doing this
Here is a blog to connect to Notion in Power Bi.

If your data source support API, I think you can try to use a Rest API as data source.
