Connect to remote server from local machine in Power BI desktop

Hi Team,

Need your help in understanding this.
I have a source SQL server database which is present on a remote server (Say XYZ). I have Power BI desktop installed on my local machine. I need to connect to that remote SQL server database (which cannot be accessed directly via local machine while tried to connect in SSMS) in Power BI. I tried doing it but it gives me the below error,

"Details: "Microsoft SQL: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No such host is known.)"

How can I connect to the remote sever in Power BI desktop? Do I need to install Power BI on that server and then connect or is there any way where I can make a connection to the remote SQL server through local Power BI Desktop by opening a firewall?

Note: Both Power BI Desktop and SQL server are in different environment, not on same machine.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ani
