visualization guidelines

I am looking for books/training on data visualizations in general. What are good guidelines to build the perfect dashboard. Which visuals are recommended for which purpose. Anyone who can recommend things?

I heard Information Dashboard Design by Stephen Few is a good read. Also, the guys from SQL BI offers a really good couse for Dashboard Design
