I'm trying to find out what happens if by accident a column is dropped from a source(ie sql server table). I assume the Power BI report will break? As a best practice is it better to use a custom query and select only the columns you need in your model over a direct import? I would think this is the case, to minimize size.

@danman71 , if that column is used in some power query step, DAX column, or measure then it will break a few things.
Best way to remove is: Select all the columns you need and use remove other columns
