power bi

I am experiencing an issue with Power BI. When I try to open the application, I encounter an error message that says:
“Something went wrong. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.”

The application does not proceed beyond this point, and the issue persists even after restarting.

Could you please assist me in resolving this problem?

Thank you for your help

Hi @f-99 - The error message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" in Power BI typically indicates a problem with the installation, corrupt files, or a conflict with system settings.

Power BI Desktop | Microsoft Power Platform

Corrupted cache files can cause the error. Clear the cache folder:

Navigate to the cache location:
Windows 10/11:
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop
Delete the Cache folder.
Restart Power BI Desktop.

Repair or Reinstall Power BI Desktop
Repair Installation:
Go to Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features.
Find Power BI Desktop, select it, and click Repair.
Reinstall Power BI Desktop:
Uninstall Power BI Desktop.
Delete all residual files in the following locations:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Power BI Desktop
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop
Restart your computer and reinstall Power BI Desktop.

system compatilibilty:

Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit) or later.

.NET Framework: Ensure you have .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later installed.

RAM: At least 4 GB (8 GB recommended).

Hope this heps.

@f-99

  1. Ensure you're using the latest version of Power BI Desktop.
  2. Navigate to C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop.
Delete the contents of the Cache and Temp folders.
  3. Right-click the Power BI Desktop shortcut.
Select Run as Administrator to see if elevated permissions resolve the issue.

💌 If this helped, a Kudos 👍 or Solution mark would be great! 🎉
