lost data source link

Hi,

My company has changed the IT server anmes and now my PowerBI report can't find the file (Excel) any more, even when the source file folder name did not change. And as such one table in the middle of the data link overview then disappeared and my reports vanished. Can anybody held how I change the location BEFORE I accept the changes powerBI wants me to accept?

Thanks for any hint.

Ragrds,

Matthias

In Data transformation or edit query, you have option for edit source.

Check for edit query option in link:https://carldesouza.com/how-to-change-a-data-source-in-a-power-bi-report/

Hi,

I did that and than the reports vanished. I would need to change the pointer to the file location without changing the fiel name (even if its the same) as it appears this makes the relevant table in the file disappear from the link overview and then I would have to build it up again.

Matthias

Hi , @Anonymous

I will reproduce your situation for your reference if I understand you correctly.

Before:  excel file location ( On the computer desktop):

After : move the excel from desktop to another folder

Then it will show error when enter into  edit queries or refresh as below:

So please try steps as below :

PS.  make sure you have not changed the data structure in excel, otherwise it is easy to cause the report content to be wrong or missing

Hi,

The file location changed from an old data storage to a new one, but the mapping to a virtual drive and the file name (and the file itself) did nit change, Thanks for the hint. I did exactly that and the reports vanished. I did not change anything else before I did that and I did also not accept the changes PowerBI wants me to accept after I open the PowerBI file. When I execute your hint the excel tab I am using out of the file loses all connections in the data link overview (and disappears itself).

I tried to find a company that offers support (by Teamviewer or so) even it costs money buit I did not find that.

Regards,

Matthias

I would also recommend to use parameters in your connections to easily face this kind of scenarios.

Hi,

Thanks for the hint. Would you be able to point to an faq article on how to do that? Thanks a lot.
