is it possible to storage historical data without returning the result of query

Hi all,

I have a dataset on excel.

This excel returns only current month data. Something as below.

Date	Dim	Kpi
05.2020	A	1
05.2020	V	5
05.2020	B	4
05.2020	S	2
05.2020	C	3

It returns this month's data for as long as we're in it. Next month it will return only 06.2020 data.

In this case i don't want to lose 05.2020 data. I want to storage it on PowerBI i don't have any datawarehouse layer.

Is it possible and how ?

Hello, this solution is very good to compare one month with another, for example, but if you wanted to have a higher history, I understand that you should create a query for each month. That's right? If the answer is yes, would there be a possibility to automate this?

Power BI doesn't have the periodic data snapshot functionality you describe. However, if you are refreshing it monthly and don't want to save it manually to an archive, you can use Power Automate to create it for you. For example when file is modified/saved/refreshed, your Flow could write archive file for that month if it doesn't exist already. Your Power BI report could then combine your archive files.

Where is the Excel data coming from? Is it entered manually or pulling from elsewhere? Ultimately you will want to look at setting up a storage location for this data. There are a few options in 365 for storing data and writing it to different locations that Power BI can then use as data source (SharePoint list, another Excel file, CDS, etc).

Actually i just said excel to give example. Datasource is not important for me in this case. It might be excel, SQL, BW or web.

I would like to know if Power Bi is capable of doing such a thing without the need for any tools or workaround.

Power BI is mainly focussed on the reporting side of things, so short answer is NO, it doesn't have the functionality to act as a data storage or warehouse. As @mahoneypat suggested, look at using Power Automate/Flow to store the data in SharePoint or OneDrive for Business or CDS, then pull into Power BI from there.
