how to evaluate cell contents as whether it is text or a value stored as text

Hello all.  I have a column of data that evaluates as text.  There are text data and value data (stored as text).  How can I convert the value as text into a decimal value?  Tried searching the board and could not find a solution.

Here is an example: (current data) and what I'd like to accomplish

Current Data		Desired Results
Apples		null
5.34		5.34
Bananas		null
0.234		0.234
Oranges		null

New a calculated column.

result column =
IF (
    ISERROR ( VALUE ( 'Test data'[Data] ) ),
    BLANK (),
    VALUE ( 'Test data'[Data] )
)
