how to configure power bi gateway

Hi Team,

I am new to Power BI. we need a urgent help.

We have developed a dashboard in a server with local DB and this server is not on internet. now we have published the dashboard and need to schedule for data refresh. we are trying to do that using gateway but stuck somewhere.

Kindly help us.

Hi Gracerashmi,

Much appreciated. 

Just login into your Power BI Service and Click on the settings option on top of your PBI Service and download Gateway Installer from there.

Once downloaded, Install the same in your Server (If the source is from your local system, then install it in your local else install the exe in your Database system).

While installing choose option "Enterprise Data Management Gateway" to be configured with the Passcode (this is nothing but security level code for future use)

You can configure the gateway with the credentials to connect your source system with the service account. Then, you are good to go to add the data source in Power BI service for the same Gateway configured.

Add the Data source with the credentials and schedule the refresh of your report in the given frequency of time.

But to install gateway in Server where DB is located we need to have internet right?

Internet not required. You can connect your server through your organization network.

or, take Remote Desktop to the server where your database exist.

Error "EnterpriseGatewayConfigurator" has been stopped working. we tried 3 server it is same error

Do you have internet in your servers? If yes, then you can install it without an error.

Or, could you please explain at which step you get this exception?

No we dont have internet in the server. While trying to install we are getting this error.

Hey, Sorry.

You should have internet in your server to configure the gateway.

please refer the below URL. Anywhere you configure your Gateway, you should require Internet.
