I want to create a composite data model using data sources from two power bi datasets. I have created the two datasets by publishing two power bi reports.
I then followed the steps in the video below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WowP5vOgeqI&list=RDLVWowP5vOgeqI&start_radio=1&rv=WowP5vOgeqI&t=157
but it doesn't work:) After importing one dataset, Power BI would not allow me to import data again --all the Get Buttons are greyed out.
One thing i notice in the video is the Power BI datasets have no icons while on my desktop, all the power bi dataset as a red database icon on the left. Do I need to create power bi dataset in a different way instead of publishing a power bi report?

@Jeanxyz here are the steps:
- new pbix file, connect to a power bi dataset
- now added another power bi data and it will come with the following warning message
- select add a local model
you will get a table selection menu and you should be good to go.
Also make sure you are using the most recent Power BI (April, 2023) and prior to it you have to turn this feature on in the preview.

Problem solved after updating to the latest Power BI desktop. Thanks!
Thanks, @parry2k . I have enabled direct query in preview setup, but still got the same problem. I can't update my PowerBI verison (current version 2023 Feb), the app store is disabled by IT.
This is your chance to engage directly with the engineering team behind Fabric and Power BI. Share your experiences and shape the future.
