hello, i'm a new user and i have what i hope is a simple question. i need to count teaching assistants assigned to particular classes over a period of many years. i have duplicate back-end rows for the courses because there are multiple teaching assistants assigned. how can i create a column or measure which counts the number of individual teaching assistants for each year/course?
thanks!
James
Hi @jamesja ,
You could create clustered bar chart or clustered column chart.
For example, place course in Axis field, year in Legend field and count of teaching assistants in value field.
Result would be shown as below.
Best Regards,
Jay
hi Jay, thanks so much. i think this is going to get me close. there's a twist in that i've now been asked to display a ratio of teaching assistants to students for each course/year, so i've been reserching that separately, but if you've got some pointers on how that may work in conjunction with the above, it would definitely be helpful. thanks either way!
Hi @jamesja ,
You could create a measure using count of teaching assistants/count of students then put this measure to Value field.
Best Regards,
Jay
Hi @jamesja
1. Place Year and Course in a table visual
2. Create this measure and place it in the visual
Measure =
DISTINCTCOUNT(Table1[Assistant ID])
If this doesn't work show a sample of the relevant tables in your model

hi AIB, thanks so much for reaching out. i tried the above, but still ended up with multiple rows for the same course, counting only one TA for each. in any case though, the assignment has shifted to displaying a ratio of TA's to students, so my original question may not even be relevant anymore...sorry to take some time in responding, i was for some reason unable to post replies to anything here when i first created the post.
Can you provide some sample data to work with?
