count one item for another?

hello, i'm a new user and i have what i hope is a simple question.  i need to count teaching assistants assigned to particular classes over a period of many years.  i have duplicate back-end rows for...

Hi jamesja 

1. Place Year and Course in a table visual

2. Create this measure and place it in the visual

Measure = 
DISTINCTCOUNT(Table1[Assistant ID])

If this doesn't work show a sample of the relevant tables in your model

hi AIB, thanks so much for reaching out.  i tried the above, but still ended up with multiple rows for the same course, counting only one TA for each.  in any case though, the assignment has shifted to displaying a ratio of TA's to students, so my original question may not even be relevant anymore...sorry to take some time in responding, i was for some reason unable to post replies to anything here when i first created the post.
