i know this is probably a rhetorical question, and unless something has change am i am correct in assuming, any power bi model developed via imported mode, if you wanted to change it to a live connection, it would need to be started from scratch?

Hi @vanessafvg,
If you want to change imported mode to a live connection, you need to restart a new .pbix file and create a live connecion.

Almost certainly.
You might be able to fake it out by creating your new live connection and then making copies of both to .zip files and then copying the "Connections" document from one to the other but I doubt that would work.
