XML Madness!

I have a client who wants to load 12.4GB of deeply-nested, hierarchical XML messages directly into PowerBI on an ongoing basis without going via an ETL layer of any kind.

 

Please could you validate my initial thoughts that no-one in their right mind would attempt this, and save me wasting lots of time researching how to make it work?

 

Or am I just being lazy?

@youngsys,

 

That sounds like a potentially heavy load for Power Query. You could test it and see how it performs, but it's generally better to perform intensive tasks with an enterprise-grade ETL tool. Power Query is an excellent tool, but it may not perform as well as ETL tools in all cases. Check out Chris Webb's blog to see if he has any articles on the topic:
