Working of RLS in the dataset

Hello everyone,

We are currently facing issues regarding visual resources exceeded when embedded in the application with RLS. Seeing the official document of RLS by Microsoft (link here), it states the below:

I would want to know as why it would have negative impact on the query performance as it would filter the data. So it should improve the query performance as it would have lesser data to compute.

Also, in the document, it says to avoid RLS as below:

Can anyone explain the above statements and why it would affect query performance negatively?
Thanks in advance.

    Hi rajulshah ,

In Power BI Desktop, all the DAX will excute in AS engine.

For RLS, which essentially uses DAX to filter data, performing this filtering will necessarily have an impact on performance, will increase the query time.

It's possible to measure the performance impact of RLS filters in Power BI Desktop by using Performance Analyzer.

Your understand is not correct, all dax will be executed simultaneously.

As long as you execute dax you are bound to consume resources and there is bound to be an impact on performance.
