Why use Ring chart instead of Donut chart?

I have some legacy reports where I see a lot of "Ring Chart by MAQ Software"' used:

What is the difference between this "ring chart" and the classic Donut Chart? 

What could be a reason to select that ring chart over a classic Donut Chart?

@Anonymous , Every custom visual come with its unique addition to the property, if that can that is fit your requirements, you can use that. Some of them can be paid.

So if the ring chart can fit your requirement that is missing in the donut you can use that
