Why is data of number type in Excel shown as text format in Power BI?

Hi, all! I created my PBI report a few months ago and have been constantly updating it since then, but I found yesterday that all data of number type in excel are showing as text type in PBI, ∑ symbol is missing. As a result, all data of number type in excel table can't be calculated as Values when creating a new visual, and the visuals that have been created can't be changed.  As the following pictures show, 1st picture shows the current status, which can't be edited, 2nd picture shows the previous version, which can be edited as a number.

Thanks in advance!

Open Power Query editor and verify the data type of 'Total Credit', I guess you might not have assigned any data type and it was kept as 'Any' data type. Change it to Decimal and make sure you do not have text and date values in that column. I hope it solves your problem.

Hello,

Please try these steps:

Check Data Type in Power BI:

  • Go to the "DATA" view in Power BI.
  • Select the column(s) with the numbers that are being treated as text.
  • In the "COLUMN TOOLS" tab, ensure that the "DATA TYPE" is set to "DECIMAL NUMBER" or "WHOLE NUMBER" or the appropriate numeric type.

Additionally also check your Excel file for the values as sometimes, numbers might be formatted as text or contain non-numeric characters. Ensure there are no spaces or non-numeric characters in the cells.

I managed all data in excel tables from 7 excel tables for this PBI, and ensured every data in the column matched the correct type.Everything was going smoothly with the PBI during that time, and I kept updating it every workday. Suddently, when I opened it yesterday, all data of number type from all excel tabels changed to the text type. I can create a new report using these Excel, and there would be no such problem, however, the PBI that I have been maintaining meet this problem.
