Why do I need a scheduled refresh with GET DATA?

Hi!

I have a dashboard running with data from SQL Server and I connected the data with GET DATA.

PowerBI says that with live data it checks every 15 minutes if there is new data. But it looks like I need to schedule my refreshes (like  with imported data). Why is this not every 15 minutes automatically refreshed?

You shouldn't have to schedule a refresh if you choose "DirectQuery" instead of "Import", although, you do lose some functionality with "DirectQuery".  Here is an article that explains the difference between the two.

Hi @Anonymous,

You get DATA in Power BI desktop, and publish it to service, right? If it is, you don't need to create a scedule fresh. When you click the dataset, you can choose the refresh frequency as the following screenshot shown.
