What-if parameter slicer and filters

Hello

I want a single number slicer, so I created a what-if parameter. This works fine.

I also want to dynamically limit the slicer range, so I created a measure in the what-if parameter table. This measure is 1 if in range and 0 otherwise. This calculates fine too.

The problem is that Power BI won't let me add the measure to the slicer's visual level filter. It also won't let me add it to page or report filters. I can add it to the visual level filter for other visuals, but none of the slicer's filters

I assume this functionality is disabled. I don't know how else to achieve what I want and would welcome suggestions on alternative approaches.

FYI I'm not using the preview filter pane functionality - would this resolve the issue?

Thanks for your assistance,

Ronel

Hi @Anonymous

Currently, it is impossible to add a measure into a slicer visual or report/page level filter.

You could add the measure into visual level filter.

if you know the values of slicers.

then create new table with required values and it should not connected with other tables.

Then use this column in slicer and write your measure.

Now you can apply measure filter to slicers.

Note: You can apply measure in visual level filter or slicer only when your table or slicer have column in visual.

Thanks for the quick reply but unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem.

My parameter range and the measure are currently in the same table, unconnected to the other tables.

I tried creating a new table without using the "what-if parameter" function and adding a number slicer and have the same problem - it doesn't allow me to add the measure to that slicer filter either.

I can't update the version, this is my company PC. The version is March 2019.

I checked with different data sets and it's definitely the visual that doesn't allow filters, not a function of my inputs. Very annoying.

Thanks anyway.

Hi @Anonymous

Get the latest version of Power BI Desktop from the Download Center.

If you're running Windows 10, you can also get Power BI Desktop from the Microsoft Store.

Regardless of how you install Power BI Desktop, the monthly versions are the same, although the version numbering may differ.

For more information about downloading and installing Power BI Desktop, see Get Power BI Desktop.

After installing the lastest version, close the pbix files, reopen it.

Best Regards
Maggie
