Hi, as the title says, I would like to know what API the map visual uses. I see on Tips and Tricks for maps (including Bing Maps integration) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn here it says that
> Power BI uses Bing's unstructured URL template service
But following the unstructured URL template service link says that that API is deprecated and will be retired on June 30th this year. Does this mean the map visual will cease to work after that date, or has it been switched to the Azure Maps Get Geocoding API?
I'm using PowerBI Desktop from September 2023 (which is installed by my company).

Hi @Anonymous ,
Microsoft hasn't officially said that the Power BI Map visual will stop working after the Bing Maps unstructured API is shut down. Most likely, Power BI is switching to a new geocoding service behind the scenes (like Azure Maps) without users needing to do anything.
You're using the September 2023 version of Power BI Desktop, which might still use the old Bing API. Since Power BI gets updated every month, newer versions probably already support the change. But if you don't update, your maps might stop working after June 30, 2025.
I would suggest -
- Update Power BI Desktop to the latest version before June 30, 2025.
- Use the Azure Maps visual in new reports because it's more modern and supported.
- Check the official Power BI Blog for any news about changes to map visuals.
