We have our application & Database hosted on on-premise linux machines, Now we want to create reports in PowerBI.
As we know, currently we don't have any PowerBI gateway support for linux machines.
We already identified 2 options:
but we are also looking for best and cost efficient options
Altenatives we are exploring:
1.Install Power BI Gateway inside the container.
Please help us in finding a best solutions and any clear explanation for what we are currently exploring.

The only possible solutions for your issue are to use the Windows-based Proxy Gateway, copying data to the cloud which you have already explored. Unfortunately, at the moment these are the most feasible options.
I recommend submitting your detailed feedback and ideas through Microsoft's official feedback channels. Feedback submitted through these channels is frequently reviewed by the product teams and can contribute to meaningful improvements.

I was not heavily involved in the details for our PBI gateway installation but from what I know we have ours installed on a Windows machine on premise. From here we have used our PBI gateway to connect to our Oracle Linux database servers and various other sources.
Call me naive but the PBI gateway I believe just needs to be installed on a local machine (in your network) so it can then reach out to all your on premise data sources. I dont believe we are using Windows proxy but I would have to dig further
