Visual Times out

Hello

My visual times allways out.
Is there a possiblity to get the result. The data is direct query (no possibility to change that).
I am filtering as much as possible but no success.
Is there a hack.

Heinrich

Hi @Heinrich ,

Whats is the connector you are using? Are you using the CQD connector?

How the link below they talk about some of the question about the connectivity to CDQ specially the question about the filtering of data.

Hello
Hope you are all doing well.

I have these configurations or details

  • No query limits
  • Time out is on Power BI Desktop
  • The type of visualization is "table" pulling 3 columns of a direct query database (not possible to switch to import mode)
  • No additional message in the error
  • The row number would be at least ~200k
  • I tried to filter as much as possible but no luck

Thanks for your support

Regards
Heinrich

Hi @Royel ,

Are you doing DQ based on tables of the database or a SQL query?

Based on your description the time out is coming from the datasource, don't know what is the database you are using but did you setup the timeout options to be larger? You can be hitting the maximum of timeout in your database and then it's returning that error.

Hello @MFelix
Hello @Royel
Thanks
I am Direct Querying against Microsoft using CQD as Data Source for our Teams Analysis.
The problem is I can not change settings on the database. The only thing is to adapt the Power BI Query. Do you see the possibility to change some settings?

Hi @Heinrich Seems like you are in development stage. So, in Power BI Desktop default timeout limit is 225 Seconds and memory limit is 1 GB. If your query exceed the available resource you will get an error. So, the best way is to filter the data as much possible and keep only required columns with proper data type.

Even, You can try with Custom timeout or No Query Limit from here

Power BI Desktop -> File -> Options and Settings -> Options ->

Here is the details: Set visual query limits in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Hi @Heinrich,

If you don't mind some questions to debug the problem:

  • Is the time out in the service or in Power BI Desktop?
  • What is the visualization you are trying to use?
  • Do you get any additional message than the time out message?
  • Can you also provide what is the data size that you are using for your DQ? (row number)

Hi @Heinrich,

If the visual times out it is due to the measure or model taking too long to bring the required data.

I suggest that in Power Query you ensure that you have pulled the columns you need, this will ensure that the model size is reduced and enhances refresh speed.

If the visual is using a measure make sure it is aggregated in DAX using SUMX for example.

Hope this helps in finding a way to make this visual load swiftly.
