Vertical sub column layout in Matrix

Hi All,

I am trying to apply a greater control over the appearence of data returned in a Matrix from an SQL View.

Currently I am returning the results as 3 seperate values (summed) for each column identified as Months... The values are Qty, Weight and Value. as you will se from the image below it is creating a sub column for each value...

I am hoping i can configure this so the value for each Column (Month) are listed vertically e.g....

                                         April

ALARMSYS_DOM_1,            13.00

Domestic Alarms System      30.48

Model 1, 2.54Kg               4,984.59

I should note that the values in the "Row Description" currently are concatenated in the SQL View but are also separate values in the data that can be listed vertically if the facility exists.

Also, can anyone help me sort the columns in Month order rather than Alphabetically?

Thanks in advance

Hi @RandomBI,

To what I can see I believe you didn't follow the steps I identified see below a small guide and see if this is the result you want:

  1. Unpivot the columns - Qty Sold, Unit Price and Weight
    • You need to choose all three columns and then unpivot
    • This will give you one column with attribute and another with valuesUnpivot_columns.png
  2. Use the Attribut for your rows and the values for your values in the table view
  3. Final_resutl.png

Think this is what you need.

Hi @RandomBI,

The image you posted was broken. Also, please share the structure of source table with some sample data.

Hi @MFelix and @v-yulgu-msft,

Apologies for not responding sooner, i am having difficulty adding images to thiese replies.

Until i can resolve the issues i am having with images here i will continue to attempt a solo resolution, thanks you both for your assistance.

Hi @MFelix@v-yulgu-msft,

Discovered that the option for adding pictures is very different if you reply to a thread using the link in the email rather than logging and replying, lol, mystery solved...

Ok, 2 images below show the new results. it appears to have added the value headings to the row, with a column reference that is just Value, Value 1, Value 2, and also the added sub totals that are not required.

here is an example of teh source data, there are other columns in the original SQL view i created but they are not currently being used in the BI view

Thank you @MFelix,

That is just the job, i was previously unpivoting the columns seperately.

Very grateful for your assistance

Hi @RandomBI,

To achieve what you want you need to unpivot the Qty, Weight and Value in the Query Editor that way you will get a column with attribute that you place in the rows and a Value column to place in the values.

Regarding the order of the month if you have a date order you should order the month by the column refer to:

Hi @MFelix,

Thanks for your response. I have tried what you suggested, although i think i may have completed the changes wrong as this does not appear to have made much difference?

New Table

Anything else, perhaps i am using the wrong visualization but cannot see any other that suits my requirements...

Hi @RandomBI,

Cannot see the image can you upload it again or explain what is happening.
