Validity of use case for synching slicers from different tables without a relationship

Hi,

Someone shared this video with me that shows a synch between two slicers from different tables on the same report page without a relationship. There is also a post in this PBI Desktop forum with a similar solution. Is there a use case where this solution should be used instead of creating a relationship between the two tables? I feel like this non-relationship sync is not a best practice, and more of a risky workaround, but I'm not sure I can articulate why. Thanks!
