Using Parameters to Select top N records from the database

I am trying to use a Parameter to control the number of records that are fetched from the database to the data model.

The intention is to use this to reduce the number of records being returned in desktop compared to when we have published to the service.

Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so what is the syntax.

I solved my own question - you can incorporate parameters as you build a string.
The bit I had missed is that your parameter must be of type Text.
