Using Direct Query and filtering on a column

Hi,

I want to use a date parameter within Power Query. I read that doing so has been possible since about a year, but only in Direct Query.

I uploaded data with a SQL in Direct Query and started by using a simple filter on a column (right click, function "date is"). This creates the following error message:

The message tells me Direct Query doesn't support the step I made and that I need to switch back to Import Mode. I don't understand why. How can I solve this?

It sounds like you are trying to use a date parameter in Power Query while working in Direct Query mode, but encountering an error message that Direct Query does not support the step you are trying to make.

One possible solution is to switch to Import mode, as suggested by the error message. In Import mode, you can use date parameters in Power Query without encountering the same limitations as Direct Query mode.

If you need to continue working in Direct Query mode, you may need to explore other options for filtering and manipulating your data that are supported in Direct Query mode. One option is to use SQL code to filter your data before loading it into Power Query. Another option is to use Power BI's built-in query editor to filter and manipulate your data in ways that are supported in Direct Query mode.
