Hello Expert,
Good Day!!
I have created Table in my report where we know by default we have three dots option to export data but in my project end users request to have button on top of Table where can we have option to export data, so dear expert please suggest if we could achieve by using button.
Thanks in advance
Santosh
Hi @santosh1979 ,
Good day! Yes, it is indeed possible to add a button above a table in your report to allow users to export data directly, instead of relying on the default three-dot menu. This can be achieved by using Power BI features such as "Power Automate" integration or a custom visual like "Export Data Button" available from the marketplace.
Alternatively, if you're using Power BI Embedded or a custom application, you can implement this functionality through JavaScript APIs, which allow exporting the visual’s data with a button click. These methods provide a more user-friendly and accessible way for end users to export data with a single click. Let me know which platform you're working with, and I can guide you further on the specific steps.
Hi @santosh1979,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum. Also, thanks to @burakkaragoz, @bhanu_gautam, for those valuable insights on this thread. Here I mentioned few workarounds that might be resolve the issue. Please have a look into it.
Power BI does not natively support exporting data from a visual using a custom button (like a "Download" or "Export" button placed above the visual). The built-in export functionality is limited to the ellipsis (...) menu or exporting the entire report/page via Power BI Service (e.g., as PDF/PPT).
Add a Custom “Export Data” Button with Tooltip: You can add a dummy button labelled “Export Data” and configure a tooltip to guide users to use the ellipsis menu to export the table data. This offers a more intuitive experience for your end users.
Use Power Automate (Premium/Pro Users): If you are using Power BI Service, you can add a Power Automate visual that lets users trigger a flow to export the table’s data to destinations like Excel, OneDrive, or SharePoint.

Paginated Reports (Advanced): For more robust export capabilities like exporting formatted tables with a button you may consider using Power BI Paginated Reports, which support advanced export scenarios to Excel, PDF, etc.

Hi @santosh1979 ,
Totally get the request — a lot of users prefer a clean export button instead of using the three-dot menu.
This gives you a proper export experience, but it does require a bit of setup and a Power Automate license.
If you just want to simulate the look of a button:
If your users are okay with Excel:
Unfortunately, Power BI doesn’t currently support native export via custom buttons — but the Power Automate route is your best bet if you want a real export action.
Let me know if you want help setting up the flow — happy to walk you through it.
