Use SQL Query Symmetric Key to Encrypt a column

Hi, I wanted to run power bi report on data coming from sql server which is encryted at source.

Here is a link to get an idea on how this is done in SQL Server Management Stuido. If I run the same select query shwon at the end I get an error shown in the image below.

When I copy paste sql query, Power query converts into M Lang and pull the data, but when I click Apply button I get this error. Not sure why , has anyone encountred similar problem ?

thanks for your help in advance.

regards

Anbu

@Anonymous ,

This is a syntax error as message shows. Delete the useless text like "Open symmetric key sk1 ...", "Close symmetric key..", then check if the issue persists.

Hi Mate,

Thanks for your response. The Open and Close  statement are not useless there. the intention was to load encrypted data by opening a symetric key and closing at the end. If i run the same code in SQL server  Mgt studio it works fine.  If you noticed the image, you see the data is loaded power query but the issue is in the Power Query Parser and something else happening when I click on the apply button.

Do you know what happens with you click on Apply button ? Does Power BI attempts to create a "new SQL view" on top of the query passed through?

regards

Anbu

@Anonymous ,

I would suggest you to create a support ticket here if this issue persists.
