Usage of PowerBI Preview Features with Connected Datasets

I was curious about how Power BI preview features are treated with connected power bi datasets.

At my company, we have single "golden" dataset that drives 15+ reports and several apps for our Power BI reporting. Regarding non visual level preview features (like horizontal fusion), do they have to be

1. Turned on in the dataset that the reports connect to and the report itself?

2. Turned on only the report?

3. Turned on only the dataset?

Any help would be appreicated

Hi @sjrrkb123

Do you mean to use the Preview features listed in Power BI Desktop? If you want to use a preview feature, you need to enable it first and restart your Power BI Desktop application. Then you are able to use it in a new report. You can also open an existing pbix file with your Power BI Desktop and edit the report. When editing, you are able to use the preview feature as it has been enabled.

These preview features cannot be enabled or added in Power BI Service directly. If you want to add a preview feature to an existing report, you need to edit the report in Power BI Desktop first. Then publish it to Power BI Service to make it work there.

@v-jingzhang perhaps I was not clear. I have a .pbix file in a workspace that acts as a dataset that reports in other workspaces are connected to using the Power BI dataset as the data source.

I was curious if both the .pbix that acts as the dataset and the report in a separate workspace need to have preview features like Horizontal fusion turned on for it to work correctly.

I had thought it would only have to be in the .pbix file with a dataset but am not sure.
