Usage Metrics Report -Distribution Methods

The usage metrics report breaks out the view count into 3 distribution methods. 1. The app used to distribute the data 2. 'Sharing' and 3. 'Workspace'. What is difference between distribution method 1 and 2 when looking at view count? The numbers are so close in some instances that upon first glance it looks like it may be double counting the view count.

"Distribution shows how the viewers obtained access to a report: shared directly, through workspace access, or through an app. The Platform indicates the technology a viewer used to open a report: via PowerBI.com, Mobile, or Embedded"
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-modern-usage-metrics

In 1. is when you publish the app and they view the reports there.
In 2. is when you share a direct link to a spcecific report

So does this mean any of the distribution methods are double counting or is the total view count for all distribution methods correct?
