Updating Published Reports in Power BI
Hi,
I'm not an experienced Excel or Power BI user and very untechnical, but I've managed to create a report in Power BI Desktop (Pro Licence) which I've published. The report points to an Excel document on my One Drive, however when I make updates to the document, it appears only to update the report (in the design part of Power BI) and not the published report.
Can anyone help with this at all??
Super grateful in advance for anyone that can!

Hi @RGujjalu
If you are using One Drive in your machine then you need to install Power BI Gateway in the same machine. The Gateway wil connect to your excel file and will refresh the data in your report.

What I mean is, if anyone else updates the data in the file, will it still work if for example I am no longer working for the company nd my profile doesn't exist as long as the file is stored in a shared drive where everyone has access to?

For this matter your company needs to use Onde Drive for Business (Cloud) where you deposit the file and every one else with Acces / Edit permission can update it. There will be no need for Power Bi Gateway to be installed to refresh the Dataset of your report.

Ok let me check with my colleagues and I'll come back and confirm to you.
What other options do we have to make the report in Power Bi automatically update if we don't use One Drive?

Of course Sharepoint/Teams since your company must have Office 365 I suppose!
Otherwise any other Cloud services

Ok, so if we used Sharepoint or Teams, as long as had a Cloud Service, we wouldn't need Power BI Gateway, correct?

It is you who is going to choose the cloud service suitable for your business case.
I can't be in your place to answer your question. As I said before, if your company or your client does have an Office 365 license then it would be good to use Sharepoint/Teams or One Drive for Business as the cloud services for repositories of the sources.

HI Amine,
Yes I've tried using that as it's set automatically, however I can't edit credentials for the source data document for the report regardless and no matter what option I select, i.e. None, Private, Organizational or Public, Power BI doesnt do anything, with a whirring icon being displayed for an age.........
Would you know what the issue is here?

Tried to use what?
What ever you use, the Administrator of the cloud service needs to give you Edit permission to it

Do you mean if I select any of these options, I need my admin person edit permission to be able to select these options?

To begin with, if you want to share a report you can't use My workspace
Second do you have a Pro License?
Third, try this combination

Hi,
So firstly, I'm not even trying to share the report yet to anyone, we've created a seperate workspace for specific users to access the report, for now I'm just trying to get the updating of the report to work.
Secondly, I don't have that option available to select, see below
And lastly, yes I have the pro licence for Power BI

Because you don't have Edit permission. Ask your Power Bi Administrator.

So once I've spoken to our Power BI admin, I should be able to carry out the first step then?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, if I do it using One Drive, does it mean others can't perform the same action as me to the reports for the data?
How would I make it universally available to certain work colleagues to perform the same tasks as myself?
