Update the data automatically using Direct Query and SSAS Multidimensional Cube

Hello!

I have a doubt, how to update the data automatically using Direct Query and SSAS Multidimensional Cube?

After processing the SSAS (olap), how do we update the Power BI data automatically? I mean, update on the Desktop and the Pro service.

Instead of clicking the update button, that is, without having any user action. So, if the dashboard is on a screen showing the data, it will be updating automatically.

It's possible?

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous ,

1. Set Scheduled cache refresh to refresh dashboard.

A tile is a report visual pinned to a dashboard, and dashboard tile refreshes happen about every hour so that the tiles show recent results. You can change the schedule in the dataset settings, as in the screenshot below.

2. Install "Auto Refresh PowerBI Report" extension in Google Chrome to refresh report.

3. For Direct Query, try to use Automatic page refresh.

In addition, I can see "Page refresh" when using DQ. My Desktop version is 2.82.5858.641 64-bit (June 2020).

Maybe you could try to install previous version.

@Icey Thanks for the reply, it was a good tutorial! I didn't try the option google one, but I will!

But I really don't know why "Page refresh" don't show it to me, is it the SSAS connection?

But thanks anyway!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Automatic page refresh only works for DirectQuery.

If the page refresh option doesn't appear when you use DirectQuery to connect to data source and you are a pro user, it is suggested you to create a support ticket to get technical help to solve the problem.

I tried that, but this option it's not available under "Filter cards", do I have to able?

I already updated the PBI Desktop version.

Also, how update the data on PBI aswell?

@Anonymous hmmm it is not on the filter pane, it is the page settings, click somewhere on the page, not on a visual, and then click format icon as shown in the post and do the settings.

I can't find, really.

I've got June/2020 version, I tried to create a new report and it's not showing as well. Can you send a picture for example please?

@Anonymous the link I shared has the screenshot, not sure what other screenshot you need. Why not you share your screenshot?

Ok then, check my image. There's no page refresh option (my PBI is in portuguese, but there's no problem about that).

Also, there's no object selected or even attached to the report. Am I doing something wrong?

@Anonymous that option will only show if you have a direct query connection in your file.

There's no option yet, and I'm connected to a Direct Query already.
