Unable to make a date field a slicer

I have Power BI Desktop for November 2023 on Windows Server 2019 v10.0.

I have an existing PBI report that was made in May 2023. I removed a slicer which was a date field, but now I cannot put it back on the report tab.

If I drag the date field to the report by default it becomes a bar graph. If I then click the Slicer item to change it to a slicer it won't change.

There are a number of tables connected together. In one case Table A is connected to Table B which is connected to Table C. Table A needs to connect to Table B with one field. But Table B needs to connect to Table C with 2 fields. Is it possible PBI can only connect a table with one field? I have found a different bug in PBI which is still not solved.

What things should I be looking for here? What could be going wrong?

Thank you.

p.s. I'm  unable to post company data here and the problem may be how our tables are. I'm querying a data lake on MS Azure ecosystem.

@croberts21 , On-Object Interaction might be causing that, you can disable that under preview features (File -> Options and settings -> Options
