Unable to login to PowerBI desktop (WAM Error)

Just started happening a few days ago - when I login to PowerBI desktop, I get "Unable to sign in. Sorry, we encountered an error while trying to sign you in. Details: WAM Error

Error Message: NoNetwork

WAM Error Message: (pii)

Internal Error Code: 557973641

Is Retryable: true

I am able to login to PowerBI Service just fine. I have rolled back to a previous version (November 2023 as I was using Dec. 2023 version), still getting the same error. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

A solution to the WAM error would be to disable WAM. Follow the steps below:

1. Open the registry editor by searching for regedit on your search bar.

2. Under Computer, click on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE dropdown, then SOFTWARE under that then Microsoft under that and then click on Microsoft Power BI

This is the full path:

3. While on Microsoft Power BI, follow these steps:

4. Right click on the new value name that appears, to modify.

5. Rename the new value name to DisableWam and change the value data to 1 as shown below:

These steps worked for me. I hope they work for you too.

Hi @HoratioAlger99

This error may have several possible causes and solutions. Please try the following:

You may need to enter your email ID instead of your Microsoft ID followed by your password.

You may need to choose the “Use a different account/Work or school account” option on the login pop-up and uncheck the “allow my org to manage my device” option on the stay signed-in pop-up.

You may need to reset your login details on Power BI’s account recovery page.

You may need to install an older version of Power BI desktop, such as the April 2023 version.
