Tooltip

Hi,

I've looked up other questions for Tooltip - however I still do not suceed.

I have a shortname for every company. However, when hovering, the judicial name should be displayed.

Everytime I try to ad the name to quickmeasures directly I get a quickfilter - which I do not want.

If I create a Quickinfo-page and drop a Card there, the values for all companies are shown - not only the one I hover over. Regardless of whether I activate "keep filter" or not.

If I create a Quickinfo-page and drop a measure showing the selectedvalue it's empty - even if I did not only hover but selected a company!

What am I missing?

Hi @Anonymous

From your screenshots, it seems you were adding a field in Drill-through fields well rather than Tooltips fields well. See the following image. The Red highlighted one is Tooltips fields well you need. The green one is for drill-through feature. In addition, you need to turn on Tooltip option in Format pane.

Please refer to the following documents about setting up tooltips.

@Anonymous I think you should report this as an issue to MSFT. Looks like Drilldown should be called something different in the language you have selected. It is a bit confusing that drill down is also called Tooltip.

Thank you!

Solved - partly.

For Bar-Diagrams I have both fields (unfortunately both are labelled Quick-Info in German). When I drop the description in the second Quick-Info I get the filter. When I drop it into the first one it works.

But for Matrix I do not have the first Quick-Info-Field - only the "Filter"-one:

...and when I direct QuickInfo to a reporting-page it shows all the descriptions, not only the one for the company I hover over:

Thank you very much!

Hi @Anonymous

Which version of Power BI Desktop are you using? I switch my Power BI Desktop application to German and it doesn't have two Quick-Info. The second is Drillthrough right there.

Hi @v-jingzhang,

I use 2.100.785.0 64-bit (Dezember 2021).

Now I have switched back to english.

I did not realize

A) the sometimes different naming of Quick-Info and Tooltip (in English) while in German all are named "Quick-Info)

B) the different behaviour of the 2 fields Quick-Info/("real" Tooltip) and Quick-Info (Drill-Down)  in German

C) that - depending on visual - sometimes there are 2 fields and sometimes only 1 (see images)

Bar. Tooltip ok. Second Tooltip-field is Drill-DownBar. Tooltip ok. Second Tooltip-field is Drill-DownEmpty page, no visual selected with Tooltips on. Tooltip = DrilldownEmpty page, no visual selected with Tooltips on. Tooltip = DrilldownMatrix. No "Tooltip"-field No1., Tooltip = Drill down.Matrix. No "Tooltip"-field No1., Tooltip = Drill down.

@Anonymous you have to select the visual and then you will see tooltip section, seems like you have clicked on the page not on the visual.

Unfortunately not. I select the visual, but I only get "QuickInfo", and when I drop the description in it I get a filter. I don't know why...

Maybe I switched "Tooltips" off - but not in Options...

If you add the Long Name field to the tooltips does it not display for you?

jdbuchanan71_0-1639755419471.png

You can even change the name in the tooltips field to be just 'Long Name' by double-clicking and changing the name.

I do not have a "Tooltips" field anymore. All I have is a Quickinfo-field. Whenever I drop the field in it I get a Quickfilter
