Hi All,
I have only 1 table in my data model. (Using dummy data for this post).
I have placed several visuals on the page. I have created a Tooltip page (and set it up to be used as tooltip).
I am quite experienced with PowerBI, so I have done all the proper setup I can think of.
The issue is that my Card (new) visual is not filtering as I would expect.
See how the TT behaves (as expected) from any other visual:
Column chart:
Donut:
Whilst, when using it on the new visual card, it doesn't filter:
What's wrong with it? Has anyone had the same issue and managed to solve it?
Thanks!
Hi @ecalzsalix,
Just checking, have you had a chance to open a support ticket, as suggested. If so, we'd love to hear the current status or any updates from that. If the issue was resolved through the support ticket, it would be great if you could share the solution here as well. It could really help other community members find answers more quickly.
Warm regards,
Prasanna Kumar
Hi @ecalzsalix,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community.
If the issue still persists, I’d recommend raising a support ticket with Microsoft. The support team can look into the backend and provide more in-depth assistance tailored to your environment.

Hi @ecalzsalix ,
Based on your images, the problem is a known limitation with the "Card (new)" visual in Power BI. It doesn't correctly pass its full filter context to a tooltip page. While other visuals like your donut chart tell the tooltip, "Show me the details for the 22 rows where the status is 'Outdated'," the "Card (new)" visual only communicates its value ("22") without the essential filtering context. This is why your tooltip defaults to showing all 68 total files instead of the filtered 22.
The most straightforward solution is to replace the "Card (new)" visual with the classic "Card" visual. The original card component is stable and reliably passes the correct filter context to tooltips, ensuring it will work exactly as you expect. While it may not have the same advanced formatting features, it provides the correct functionality.
If you must keep the appearance of the "Card (new)" visual, you can use a common workaround involving a transparent overlay. First, configure your "Card (new)" as desired. Then, place a blank Button shape directly on top of it. In the button's formatting options, make it completely invisible by turning off its fill, border, and icon. Finally, assign your tooltip page to this invisible button instead of the card. The user will see the new card, but their mouse will interact with the invisible button, which correctly triggers the filtered tooltip.
As a final check, always ensure your Power BI Desktop is updated to the latest version. This type of component-specific issue is often a bug that may have been addressed in a more recent monthly release from Microsoft.
Best regards,
Thank you for your response @DataNinja777 and for confirming it's still buggy. I thought that might have been the case, but it's more than 2 years that this viz is out... I don't use it much but one would expect this to be fixed..
However, funnily enough, when you were responding, I was testing several alternatives and I was coming up with an "invisible" table. Which idea is similar to the one you propose about the button? So, out of curiosity, I was trying the button, but I see no option to set a page as its TT. Any idea where it is?
