Toggle Switches Using Images

Hi all,

Losing my rag a bit with this, I have an on image and an off image for toggling visuals on and off.
When I click on the image it does not change yet I have set up the bookmarks, selections and actions but nothing is happening.
Do I have to create the bookmarks whilst selecting the On and Off images in the selection panel?

I have unchecked data and all visuals

 Thanks

Alex

Hi @AMCMILLAN

I really wish there was a toggle bookmark button.  That aside, you need to make it so that when bookmark A is active the image that points to bookmark B is visible while the one for A is hidden and vice-versa. All the objects (visuals and images) must be selected prior to updating either of the bookmarks.

1) Selection pane

Make sure you have:

  • Image_ON

  • Image_OFF

  • (and the visuals you want to toggle)

2) Create the ON bookmark

  1. In the Selection pane:

    • Show Image_ON

    • Hide Image_OFF

    • Show the visuals that should be ON

  2. Now create or UPDATE the bookmark

  3. Bookmark settings:

    • Display

    • Data (unchecked — correct)

    • Current page (optional)

Name it: Toggle_ON

3) Create the OFF bookmark

  1. In the Selection pane:

    • Hide Image_ON

    • Show Image_OFF

    • Hide the visuals

  2. Create or UPDATE the second bookmark

Name it: Toggle_OFF

When I look at linking the selection to the bookmark it keeps referring to the first bookmark

Check in the bookmark options (three dots next to each bookmark) that the Display is checked for both bookmarks, and that the state (hidden/showing) of all visuals is correct for each bookmark.

Also check that All visuals is checked, not selected visuals - less likely to be the issue though.

Finally, just check you've not conflicted yourself by setting Image 1 bookmark to be 'Show Image 1' since that, naturally, won't change anything, but is easily done since you're matching up your bookmarks with images.

Thanks Jamie,
I have tried that but now it looks like the one is working but the other isnt

Ok that's progress - there must be some difference between the two bookmarks then.

When the second one doesn't work is that because it doesn't change anything, or it shows more without hiding anything?

That's correct it doesn't change anything

Hi Alex,

This usually happens because the bookmark was not created while the correct state of the ON/OFF images was selected in the Selection pane.

For toggle buttons to work, you must:

1. Set up the Selection Pane correctly

Show only the ON image for the ON bookmark, and hide the OFF image.
Then do the opposite for the OFF bookmark.

2. Create the bookmarks after setting visibility

Bookmarks capture the visibility state at the moment you create them.
So yes you need to select/hide the correct images in the Selection pane first, then create/update the bookmark.

3. Turn off “Data” and “All visuals”

Good that you already disabled those.
Only Display should be selected in the bookmark options.

4. Add the Action to the image

Select the image → Format → Action →

  • Type: Bookmark
  • Bookmark: choose the correct one (ON or OFF)

Common mistake

If bookmarks were created before the visibility was set, clicking the image will do nothing because the bookmark does not contain the correct visibility state.
Just update the bookmarks:

  • Arrange visibility
  • Go to View → Bookmarks
  • Click the next to the bookmark → Update

After that, the toggle should work properly.

If you want, share a screenshot of your Selection pane and bookmark list and I can tell you exactly what needs adjusting.
