I am new to Power Bi and Tabular Editor. I discovered this article on personalizing visuals
Let users personalize visuals in a report - Power BI | Microsoft Docs
I wanted to do this with my powerbi dataset which is connected to a existing power bi dataset. I do not have the Data option in my power bi desktop file and I am connected to a live Power Bi Dataset.
The reason I connected to this dataset is because our IT team already made this dataset row-level secure. I downloaded tabular editor 2 and after clicking on the external tool I get this
After researching this topic I always end up on this post.
Tabular Editor Error 401 - Microsoft Power BI Community
Which points to this post
Solved: Tabular Editor Error 401. Report and Model in sepa... - Microsoft Power BI Community
Which states:
"I skipped a step when working with a "Thin report" and separate Model file.
When trying to create Perspectives, I needed to first open Tabular Editor from the Model file.
Once done and saved, I then needed to refresh the "Thin Report" and the perspectives will be pulled through.
Rule of thumb: always start from the model.
FYI
Thin Report = Power BI Report that does not contain the model. It is instead live connected to a separate model file (either locally or from the Power BI service)"
I did not see any documentation in the solution, but it sounded like there is a way for me to do it. However, when researching this topic I find myself ending on this post.
Using Tabular Editor to Manage Relationships in Li... - Microsoft Power BI Community
Which makes it sound like it is not possible to connect to live connections.
So I would like to know if it is possible to add perspectives to a live dataset. If so is there step by step instructions or a place I can learn more about the process?
Noob question. Is it possible to connect to a thin report opened in desktop and add new measures via TE3?
@Anonymous , If your tabular editor 2 is properly installed, you should be able to open the same using external tools in power bi desktop.
In case you want to connect to a dataset on service. You will able in case of power bi premium using XMLA end point and workspace URL
How do I know if it is properly installed? It is an option in external tools and I can open it through pwer bi.
