Error Login Received a request with an unmatched or no authentication scheme. 401

Hi, I'm having a strange error in Power BI Report Server. I can only access the web section from the server, but if I try from another PC or server, it always returns the login form, and in the log I find the following error:

Received a request with an unmatched or no authentication scheme. 401

I'm a standalone server and I tried to connect with

username and password
machinename\username and password
.\username and password

I can't figure out why.

Any help?

Sorry, I didn't update the post, my mistake!!! The problem was the reverse proxy. I'm closing this thread.

It usually means the server doesn’t like how the request is being authenticated, so it keeps sending you back to the login page.

Since you can open the web portal directly on the server but not from other machines, it’s very likely a configuration issue rather than a username/password problem. Here are a few things you can try to check:

    • Open the Report Server config file (rsreportserver.config) and make sure Windows authentication is enabled. In the <AuthenticationTypes> section you should see something like RSWindowsNTLM. If this is missing or only custom auth is configured, external logins can fail.
    • Make sure you’re using the same URL from the another PC as on the server (for example, http://servername/reports or https://servername/reports). If HTTPS, reverse proxy, or port changes were recently made, they can break authentication and cause 401 errors.
    • In the browser on the another PCs, add the report server URL to Local Intranet/Trusted Sites so the browser is allowed to send Windows credentials automatically.
    • Double‑check that the account you’re using is actually granted access in Report Server (for example, as a System Administrator or Content Manager).

In many cases, the fix ends up being: enable RSWindowsNTLM in the config, make sure the HTTP/HTTPS bindings are correct, and access the portal using that exact URL from the another machines. After that, the login prompt stops looping and you can sign in normally.
