Source column name changed and query edited but related Visuals disappeared

Hi all,

I have done column name change in power bi data source. Same has been appended in Power query editor also. But, I am able to refresh the data successfully but visuals which involved old column names got disappeared. Is there any direct way to protect it so that vsiuals will also get updated automatically?

Hi @Karthik12 ,

One way to achieve this is by renaming the columns only at the report (visualization) level. This means that the column names in the report will be different from the column names in the data. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Open the report in Power BI Desktop.
  2. Navigate to the Visualizations pane.
  3. Right-click on the column in the Values section and select Rename.
  4. Enter the new name for the column.

Best Regards,

@Karthik12

When you change column names in Power BI data sources and update them in Power Query, visuals that use the old column names might break. Unfortunately, Power BI doesn't offer a direct, built-in way to dynamically update visuals when column names change. However, you can take a few steps to mitigate this issue.
