Hey there!
I think I found a small bug in the "concatenate labels" feature. When your data is not concatenated at first, switching the axis "concatenate labels" OFF will not un-concatenate them. Only when re-sorting by date will the un-concatenation start working.
Here is a GIF that shows what I mean:
In this gif you see that I start with concatenated labels. Switching off the concatenation does nothing, but then flipping the sort order of the graph will apply the concatenation change.

Oh lol, I dont know how it happened, but I started in the issues section, but ended up on the forums. I'll re-post this in the issues forum. Thanks.

@jaap_olsthoorn , the First sort then concatenate. If you do changes then it does work immediately. You have to repeat the steps. Expand-> Sort -> Label off (or on then off)
but you can log an idea for that, if needed
To the end user though, the list is already sorted. Maybe they didnt sort it manually, but the date range comes out auto-sorted. They are in the right order, why would you need to re-sort it before this feature works?
