Slicer - missing textbox field ?

My Slicer doesn't have the ability to input a value. I can show it in a drop down list, but it would be painful for users to select it from the list since there are hundred of items. I saw in multiple posts that people have text box. How can I enble this? is it because of data type used in the slicer? thanks

thanks. It appears the data type have to be varchar. If it is int/numeric, it won't work.
