Simple Relationship Build Issues

Hi All,

I think this is probably a very simple problem I am struggling with!  I have 3 different spreadsheets containing the same column headers but different information.

On my Dashboard I want each spreadsheet to have its own histogram - SIMPLE already done this.

Then I want to create another histogram that combines all the information from all 3 spreadsheets into 1 graph.

I tried to do the Manage Relationships and autodetect because all the columsn are the same but it did not detect this.  Does this mean i have to manuallly build a relationship one column at time between all 3 spreadsheets? is there a quick way to sort this that I am missing?

Hi @Anonymous

If all your tables are at the same granularity you should be able to use Power Query Merge Query as per below

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=129&v=dTdFt9AvDHA&feature=emb_logo

Otherwise, you can build Dimensions that will filter all three table, please refer

In transform/Edit quereis you have to do 2 extra steps
1. Add an extra column to your dataset, for example: Source
for Life Extensions -> source field with fixed value Life Extensions
for CSF -> source field with fixed value CSF

2. Append Life Extensions with the other 2 tables
   see this link: append queries

In the datamodel, only load your Life Extensions table, which will contain all 3 files.
You can add a filter on Source to display it for 1, or a combination.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Based on your description, yes you will have to manually create relationships under "Manage Relationships" options.

The reason is, Power BI not always creates relationships automatically if it doesn't have confidence in creating them or may be found data ambiguous. But, in most cases it creates relationships.

In you case try setting relationships manually and see how it goes.

For more details on relationships, you can refer this article:

If this helps and resolves the issue, appreciate a Kudos and mark it as a Solution! 🙂

Thanks,

Pragati
